At Switch, everything revolves around progress, both physical and mental. Whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or have been training for years, strength training is one of the most effective ways to achieve your goals. It’s not just about building muscle; it’s an investment in your health, energy, and self-confidence. In this blog, we’ll explore the benefits of strength training for everyone, including why it’s especially beneficial for women.

The benefits of strength training

    1. Stronger body, better posture

By training regularly, you strengthen your muscles, tendons, and joints. This not only helps you during workouts but also in everyday life, from carrying groceries to sitting with better posture behind your desk. Did you know that after the age of 30, your muscle mass decreases by around 1% every year? Keep reading to discover how you can maintain your muscles as effectively as possible.

      Faster fat burning

One of the biggest benefits of strength training is that it boosts your metabolism for longer periods of time. During your workout, you naturally burn calories, but the real effect continues after your training session.

By building muscle mass through strength training, your body uses more energy even at rest compared to fat tissue. This means you continue to burn more calories outside the gym, even when you are relaxing on the couch or sleeping.

Strength training also creates an afterburn effect, also known as EPOC (Excess Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption). After an intense strength workout, your body continues to recover for hours, using extra oxygen and energy in the process. This temporarily increases your calorie burn, providing an additional benefit on top of your workout.

At Switch, we combine strength training with functional movements and short, intensive training blocks. This way, you stimulate muscle growth while improving fat burning and fitness at the same time. The result? A stronger body that feels leaner and more energetic.

      Train with a purpose

Do you want results? Then you need to train with focus. Don’t just go through the motions, but know what you are working towards.

👉 Muscle growth (strength and visible results)

Train with heavier weights. Aim for 8 to 9 repetitions with controlled and steady execution. The final repetitions should feel challenging. This is where you make the difference.

👉 Muscle maintenance (stay fit and strong)

Use moderate weights and work with around 10 to 12 repetitions. Perfect for keeping your body strong without pushing yourself to the maximum.

👉 The basics always remain the same

Good technique is more important than heavy weight.
      No rushing, just control.
Recovery is just as important as training.

Consistency beats everything. Keep training, keep challenging yourself, and you will notice the difference in your strength, your energy, and the way you feel.

      Mental strength and stress reduction

During training, your body releases endorphins, also known as the feel good hormones. You feel more energetic, more positive, and less stressed. Strength training is not only great for your body, but also a powerful form of mental therapy.

      Healthier joints and stronger bones

Strong muscles protect your joints and help prevent injuries. Strength training also contributes to stronger bones, which is essential, especially as you get older.

      Personal growth and motivation

At Switch, everything revolves around progress. The fitter you feel, the more often you will come to the gym. Every repetition, every kilogram, and every workout brings you closer to becoming the best version of yourself. Our coaches guide you step by step, so you can get the most out of yourself.

Why strength training is also important for women

There is still a common misconception that strength training is only meant for men or that women will become “too muscular” from it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Strength training is incredibly valuable for women, both for their health and their self confidence.

Strength training helps women build a strong and healthy body. Because women naturally produce less testosterone, they build muscle mass more slowly than men. The result is more energy, improved body proportions, and better posture.

In addition, strength training offers extra benefits for women when it comes to hormonal balance. Here is a short overview of which types of training work best during each phase of your cycle.
